WORK IN PROGRESS
Yesterday I, together with first born and finalborn, went to see His Holiness The Dalai Lama speak. It has always been my wish to see him in person and to hear him talk was just such a thrill. I read parts of his book The Art of Happiness years ago when Kriscia brought it home one day, and I’ve loved to browse through it, and know that it was always in our book shelf. He’s a fascinating man and when he says things that you may have heard before or that you know in your heart, he just makes them sound even more true and clear.
What did he say this time?
His talk was about Beyond Religion which is also the title of his new book. “You had to be there” but some of the basic truths that he said which I can remember (1 day later):
- secular ethics embedded in children’s education so that humans learn to live compassionately, peacefully, and happily
- compassion starts from birth when the mother first feeds her child. No one is born evil so it is just a matter for this world to ensure people continue with this compassion and love for each other
